Kevin Murray ’86, Football

Hailing from North Dallas High School, Kevin Murray lettered at quarterback for the Aggies from 1983 to 1986.  This field general led two consecutive SWC league titles and Cotton Bowl appearances in 1985 and 1986.  1985 was a special season for the Aggies and Murray.  That year marked the first time that the team won the SWC title outright and was also the first time in nearly two decades that the team made an appearance in the Cotton Bowl.  In addition to enjoying team success, Murray also received post season accolades following the 1985 campaign as he was chosen as a consensus All-SWC quarterback.  Murray would receive the same conference honors in 1986 for leading the Aggies to another stellar season as they once again captured the crown.  During his final two seasons, this one of a kind signal caller lead the Aggies to an overall record of 19-5 and consecutive finishes in the top 10.  Murray proved to be such a prolific passer that many of his records still stand over a decade after his last game.  Murray holds the passing marks for touchdown passes (48), season passing yards (2,463 in 1986), season completions (212 in 1986), season attempts (349 in 1986), season completion percentage (.607 in 1986) and total plays (1,121).  In addition to these records, Murray also places second in the school books for career passing yards (6,506), career completions (534), career attempts (926), season touchdown passes (17 in 1986) and total offense (6,455.)  Following his illustrious career guiding the Aggies, Murray went on to obtain a degree in Business Management from Dallas Baptist University.
